Dylan’s Swansea – Fully Escorted Guided Tour
Coach or car to the beautiful Gower Peninsula, the first area of Britain to be designated “an area of outstanding natural beauty”. Visit Worms Head and Rhossilli, recently voted Britain’s most beautiful beach and also voted in a Millennium poll, the fourth most beautiful beach in the world – I would love to see the three that topped the poll!
We’ll stop here to take in the stunning scenery before we travel back through beautiful Gower to the old fishing village of Oystermouth, and the Mumbles, home to many Swansea celebrities including Catherine Zeta Jones and Michael Douglas, where writers such as Dylan Thomas and Kingsley Amis spent many an evening in the local pubs.
We’ll include a brief visit to Oystermouth Castle with its views over Swansea Bay.
From Mumbles we’ll travel back to Swansea and en-route we’ll visit Pantycelyn, one of the highest points in Swansea, where you will have a wonderful view of the magnificent sweep of Swansea Bay – which is often compared to the Bay of Naples.
A short journey to 5 Cwmdonkin Drive, where we’ll see the house where Dylan Thomas was born. We’ll probably have time for a stroll in Cwmdonkin Park where Dylan spent many a happy childhood hour. Those were the early days that inspired much of his later writing.
Back to Swansea and perhaps a brief visit to the 1940’s museum before moving on to Swansea Market – the largest indoor market in Wales, full of local people buying and selling local produce.
Time for a stroll around Swansea Marina, where the old warehouse buildings have been converted into an eclectic mix of art galleries, museums, theatres, cafés and pubs.
Explore the National Waterfront Museum and the Tram Museum, the statues of Dylan Thomas and Captain Cat or while away an hour at the world famous Dylan Thomas Centre. Of course you may want to simply sit at a café or bar and watch the world go by?
*Please do not forget your cameras as all our trips offer wonderful photo opportunities.
**Although this trip is influenced by Dylan Thomas, the day offers something for everyone.
